Schaefer - A unique single vineyard Shiraz of great elegance and power

Some wines just seem to capture where they come from – and Tim Adams Schaefer Shiraz is one of them. The fruit comes from the Schaefer vineyard in the Armagh area of Clare Valley, a small block of old vines that produce wonderfully concentrated Shiraz.

Here the red loam and slate soils give the wine its great depth and dark fruit richness while cool nights, due to the refreshing evening sea breezes that waft in from the nearby Spencer’s Gulf,  help it keep that lovely balance of freshness and spice.

The Schaefer vineyard represents something truly special - both in the uniquely elegant and richly flavoured fruit it produces and a result of the meticulous care and passion shown by the Schaefer family over their years of grape growing.

Tim was aware of the special fruit produced from the vineyard, so when the Schaefers made the decision to retire, he quickly came to agreement to purchase the vineyard. Now, Tim and Pam, as custodians of this beautiful property continue to nurture the vines with the same dedication and attention to detail as the Schaefers.

A Special Release, from a low yielding vintage which produced reds with great concentration of flavour.

There are aromas of black cherries and plums with chocolate, spice, and, toasty notes. Black cherries, plums, and ripe red berries dominate the palate, lifted by the distinctive spice and toasty notes from its gentle ageing for 24 months in new French oak.

It is a complex, yet graceful wine, that shows great elegance and balance, with silky tannins and a long, satisfying finish.  It’s classic Clare Valley Shiraz at its best – rich enough for hearty food, but refined enough to enjoy on its own.

It is drinking beautifully now, while those with great patience will be well rewarded as it evolves beautifully over the next 20 years.
