Merry Christmas from Tim
As we look forward to Christmas, we are grateful for your support and look forward to vintage 2024 in a couple of months.
I am very excited about a new white due to be released early next year, Fiano. A fuller bodied white with subtle nutty aromas, fresh pear, citrus and honey flavours encased by rich and waxy textures. Watch out for it in the UK from April / May.
We have planted more vineyard to Pinot Gris, Fiano, Sangiovese and Tempranillo.
The season to date has had its challenges, but overall things are looking good. October was very dry, but cool. On the morning of 26th October, we had the most severe frost that I’ve seen in my 50 years in wine. We did better than most in the Clare, losing just 1.5% of our vineyard. Others fared worst, losing up to 78% in one case.
November was about average temperature, with lots of rain in the last week of the month. The fruit set is good to very good, while it is excellent in Riesling. Substantial rain is forecast for early December, so we will keep our fingers crossed.
Our current red releases are drinking beautifully, reflecting the great vintages of 2018 through to 2021. They will age well, so anyone with space in their wine rack or cellar are well advised to store some away for the future.
We will have Christmas Day in Adelaide with Pam’s family. On the 27th we will head off to the beach for a week or two, before heading back to Clare in preparation for the vintage which should begin sometime in February.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2024.
